Born to Run 2025

True Messages at Born to Run: Where cultures meet and miles connect.

There are moments in life where running becomes more than just movement- it becomes connection. Last year through True Messages and All We Do Is Run, we had the honor of supporting the Raramuri runners trip to the incredible Born to Run Ultramarathons.

For those who have experienced BTR, you know it’s not just a race- it is a gathering…. a family reunion. A place where community respect, and shared love for the trail come together in a way that feels like family.

At the heart of this event is Luis Escobar whose roots run deep in the story of the Caballo Blanco Ultramarathon. As one of the original runners alongside Micah True, Luis carries forward a vision that goes far beyond competition.

The vision is about cultural exchange, opportunities, respect and honoring the traditions of the Raramuri people whose relationship with the running is both ancient and deeply spiritual.

Bringing Raramuri runners to BTR wasn’t just about participation- it was about sharing something meaningful. The Raramuri don’t run for medals or recognition. They run as part of life itself- community endurance and spirit intertwined. I believe that spirit was felt.

Throughout the event, there was a quiet but powerful exchange happening- stories shared, traditions witnessed and mutual respect growing with every mile. One of the most special parts of the gathering was the temecal ceremony, For many this was their first experience with a temezcal- a traditional sweat lodge in indigenous practice, symbolizing renewal, reflection and connection to the earth. It was simply put… lovely. There was a softness to it, a sense of grounding. a remindeer that even in a space filled with endurance athletes, slowing down and turning inward can be just as powerful as crossing a finish line.

Why this matters….

Experiences like this remind us why True Messages exist. It is about creating bridges- between cultures, between ways of life, between people who might otherwise never meet. its about honoring traditions and creating opportunities while initing others to learn respectfully and with open hearts.

The Raramuri have so much to teach the world- not just about running , but about living simply, moving with purpose and staying connected to community and nature. Spaces like BTR make that exchange possible.

We are deeply grateful to the runners, the organizers and everyone who showed up with curiosity and respect. Especially grateful to the Raramuri Runners: Makawi, Irma, Juan Rico and Argelia who continue to inspire not just with their strength but with their humility and spirit.

If you feel inspired to support bringing Raramuri runners to BTR 2026 there are two meaningful ways to help.
