Caballitos Run 2025
The Caballitos run has been going on for over a decade in the town of Urique the day before the UMCB and it is my favorite day of the year. There is so much excitement from the children, some of whom have traveled rather long distances. The city of Urique and it’s people are also excited and enjoy spectating the kids’ race and the runners who are preparing to run the UMCB the following day cheer on the kiddos as well.
These kids give it their all. They’ve learned to push through challenges and channel that energy on race day. Take a look at the three photos below: in the first, the young boy is nearly airborne as he trips; in the second, he’s hitting the ground; and in the third, the barefoot cutie picks himself up, determined to keep going. He embodies an indomitable spirit. So many of the children who participate pour everything they have into the race, and it truly inspires me.
Running is an important part of the Raramuri culture. True Messages is happy to be able to help support such a wonderful event. We are thankful that Urique values this day and honors the culture for both the children and the adults.
This year True Messages wanted to give the children their very own tech race shirt and also we wanted to honor a Mas Loco (Celeste Havener) who has been making origami horses for the kids for many years. She spends hours and hours folding each square of paper and transforming it into a pony. I am convinced she adds love to each and every one.
We are thankful that Earth Runners helped sponsor the shirts - the kids were thrilled with them!
We do want to shout out to 100 Mile Club who typically donates 100 Mile club shirts to the kiddos. They will be donating shirts next year and it is always appreciated.
True Messages is thankful for the amazing groups of runners who generously volunteer at the Caballitos’ Race, helping distribute shirts and personally placing medals on each finisher.
