‘Corre Libre’ Micah True Memorial Run

On the side of Micah's cabin in Batopilas is now written "Caballo Blanco is not dead because he lives in the hearts of Raramuri runners." This weekend Raramuri runners honored Micah with a run on some of his favorite trails in the majestic Sierra Tarahumara. The race ended in the Raramuri village of Sorichiqui with a festival full of music, dancing, lots of food, tesguino and celebration.

True Messages is honored to have supported this event. We were also able to sponsor a trail project with 35 local Raramuri working hard for a full week, making the course much better for the runners and will now be much more accessible to the community and all who want to enjoy foot travel between Los Alisos in Urique to Batopilas Canyon.

We also appreciate those who helped in part: the Municipality of Urique, Mama Tita, Mario and the San Isidro Cabanas family and others. But we want to highlight however this event was made most special thanks to the effort of legendary runner and race director Arnulfo Quimare. Arnulfo created a beautiful course for the runners, coordinated an extra special celebration for Sorichiqui and all the surrounding villages high in the Sierra over the Batopilas Canyon, and honored Caballo Blanco with a day that was magical for the runners and everyone who participated helping and celebrating. Indeed, Caballo is still alive in the hearts of the Rarámuri runners, and in all of ours as well. Long live Caballo Blanco! Long live the Raramuris!

Micah True (El Caballo Blanco) November 10, 1953 – March 27, 2012
