Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco 2023

When you run on the Earth, and when you run with the Earth, you can run forever”

We want to thank everyone who participated in the 20th running of the Ultra Caballo Blanco. You are appreciated – thank you.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all those that make this event, this run, so very very special.

Micah True (El Caballo Blanco) created this run to honor the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Tarahumara, the Raramuri, and their running traditions. Though Micah also created this event for all of us too so that we could all come together in peace and in celebration.  A place where athletes from many nations and many cultures run together as one. More than just honoring the Raramuri, Micah wanted us to experience Korima, and all the wisdoms these people and these lands have to offer. He knew that even if only for a few days, we would be exposed to the joy of simplicity and connecting with each other and Mother Earth. An opportunity to focus on what is important in life, letting go for a few days all the challenges and unnecessary distractions outside of these canyon walls. An opportunity to “Run Free” together, was Micah’s Korima gift that is now 20 years in the making. But also he wanted us to experience a challenge. To experience a run that pushes us, and no matter the outcome, we come away knowing we can do hard things. We can get through challenges. We can be strong when things are tough. We can do this together and together we Run Free!!

There is an unmistakable connection between the people of these lands, the people that travel from around the world to experience these lands, and the lands themselves. Urique and the Sierra Tarahumara will be with us forever, whether we are only able to make it here once in our lifetime, or we are able to run every year – this connection is deep, and it is for life. As our Raramuri friends would share: Kuira Ba.

Acknowledgements and Invitations.

First let us thank the people of the village of Urique. Those from outside these canyon walls are so very grateful to those who live within these magical lands for always inviting us into your home as part of this community and as family. We appreciate all you do to make this event extra special for everyone that visits.

Thank you to all the organizers and hosts, Daniel Silva, Jose Herrera, Fabio Meraz and all their Urique administration team. Thank you Urique DIF. Thank you to FITA and the Chihuahua team. Thank you to True Messages team. We know the work, commitment and passion that goes into making this the greatest endurance sport event in all of Mexico, and you are most greatly appreciated.

We are thankful too for the leaders and their teams of these past 20 years that helped make the Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco all that it is: Cecy, Orlando, Mayra, all the Dominguez family, and always the DIF groups and every single volunteer that has helped over these 20 years – THANK YOU.

The Red Cross team and all the volunteers that support the aid stations or help setup the infrastructures and organize all the events. You are appreciated greatly. Your time and your effort we acknowledge with much thanks.

We always want to say a special thanks to Mama Tita, Prospero Torres and all those that helped Micah in the early days create this run. Thanks to Christopher McDougall and that whole 2006 gang that helped so many come to know about the wonderment of the Sierra and its peoples. Thanks to Josue and Flint for their support after Micah’s passing and to Maria “La Mariposa” for the love she has always shared for the Raramuri people and passion she has to continue to share the Messages Micah gave us all.

Mas Locos all over the planet, we appreciate you. We thank all the sponsors and supporters over the years, Norawas de Raramuri, the FITA organizers, Mas Korima, Kara and the 100 Mile Club, CY S.A. de CV, MRT, CocaCola, Ah Chihuahua, Urique Turismo Luna Sandals and Barefoot Ted, and all the help from those with the state of Chihuahua, and all the others over the years who have been there when asked.

Special thanks to the legendary corredores who always find a way to run with us: Miguel Lara, Arnulfo Quimare, Silveno, Manuel Luna, Maria Isadora Rodriguez, Lorena and the whole Ramirez family, and so so many more that have inspired us over the years not only with their running abilities, but importantly as humans, with their kindness, generosity, and humility. Thank you to all the Raramuri runners that participate in this run together. We know it is not easy to find a way to Urique from your homes in Guachochi, Batopilas, Bocoyna, Porochi and lands further – thank you for making this journey and running with us.

The Ultra Maraton Caballo Blanco is an event created from and sponsored by Korima. We honor Caballo Blanco, a simple man with a powerful message. We thank him for introducing us to the people and the blessings of the Barrancas del Cobre. Micah said, “We are the Messengers”, let us continue to honor this and continue to share his Messages.

Please join us again for the 21st running of the UMCB on March 3, 2024 – a run like no other. Gracias, Thank You, Matetera Ba.

Viva Mexico! Viva Chihuahua! Viva Urique! Viva Caballo Blanco! Viva los Raramuris!
