RUN LIKE A RARAMURI
Stories and Wisdoms from the Sierra Tarahumara and Running Long
What if running was never about going faster… but about connecting deeper?
RUN FURTHER.
LIVE SIMPLER.
REMEMBER WHY YOU STARTED
For the last 15 years I have spent time running with and living alongside the Raramuri in the Sierra Tarahumara - learning a different way to run, to move, to endure, to belong, and to connect with the earth and one another.
This book isn’t about training pace, heart rate zones or foot cadence. It’s about remembering something we have forgotten.
WHY IS IT DIFFERENT? I didn’t go to the Sierra Tarahumara to write a book. I suppose you could say I went searching and exploring. For something I couldn’t name, but I knew it was different. What I found running along side the Raramuri changed how I understand endurance, community, connection, and what what it means to keep going forward forever. I think it is a ‘Running Book’, but it isn’t about training plans or performance metrics. It’s about a different way of moving with and through the world.
These are those stories, along with a few other learnings and wisdoms I have gained from my friends throughout the world who run long and run forever.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST DISTANCE RUNNING CULTURE DOESN’T TRAIN THE WAY YOU MAY THINK - ARE WE DOING IT WRONG?
No Watches
No fancy shoes
No strict plans
No obsession with pace
Just movement, community, and something deeper.
In and around 2006-2007 Christopher McDougall went to the Copper Canyon and in 2009 published an inspiring and generation defining running book called “BORN TO RUN”. I think if Chris had an opportunity to spend more time in the Sierra Tarahumara he would have changed the name.
We were not Born to Run…We were BORN TO RUN TOGETHER
THESE ARE NOT JUST “PEOPLE WHO RUN”
This is a culture, running is a way of life, and a connection to the land that has endured generations. These lands have given me so much - this is a way of giving back - participating in the circle of Korima. I hope you come to know these inspiring humans and the wisdoms they have for us all.
All proceeds from the book will be donated to our 501c3 nonprofit True Messages (www.truemessages.org) that honors, celebrates and supports the Raramuri community.
