Amigos!

Our friends at Compassion Copper Canyon are doing some super important work down in the Sierra. True Messages is privileged to be able to help support their efforts, but there is much work to be done and they sure could use some additional help. Please consider a separate donation directly to CCC and help our furry amigos in the Barrancas.

Following is a brief introduction to the projects and the team they have shared with us. To learn more about CCC and their efforts go to their website (link below). Thanks for all you do Compassion Copper Canyon team!

CCC

The mission of Compassion Copper Canyon began with Dr. Dawkins and her husband Alan traveling to Mexico for the 16th annual Caballo Blanco Ultramarathon in March of 2018. The region of the Copper Canyons within the Sierra Madre Occidental is brutally beautiful, difficult to reach, and hard on its inhabitants.  They fell in love with the area and were inspired to help. They returned again in December 2018, this time with their two small children driving 30 hours to get there. They filled the back of their old Ford pickup truck with clothes they and friends donated, children's toys for a Christmas toy drive, and, of course, veterinary supplies. Each place they went around the canyon, they spread the word so people would know that they had free medications to treat people's pets or street dogs.  With the help of some wonderful local friends and supporters, they even reached some remote towns that only 4-wheel drive could get to and some that could only be reached by foot! Of course, this journey was helped by the tremendous guide Prospero Torres. When they left the Copper Canyon Region this time, they felt that they wanted to do even more and decided to start the process to become an official non-profit.

Now this 5013C non-profit (based out of Chattanooga TN) returns to the beautiful area of the barrancas to do 3-4 week long spay and neuter clinics in remote mountain towns.  They are excited in the partnership that has formed with local government and like-minded individuals to help out the animals (and therefore the people) in this beautiful region.  While the focus is spay and neuter the also treat any sick pets while in the towns, provide deworming, mange treatment and flea and tick medications. All the veterinarians and support staff volunteer their time. Donations are used to directly purchasing the anesthesia medications and supplies. In addition, they cannot resist taking a few of the sickest puppies back to the USA if they are on the street to provide them a chance at a better life.

Featured adoptee: “Ava”

AVA

She was found our first day in Mexico by Dr. Dawkins’ 9-year-old daughter in the town of Divisidero. She was in an abandoned train station weighing less than 3 pounds, and she was ridden with parasites and even lice. Dr. Dawkins and her family kept her with them for their entire trip because she was so small they could not leave her alone. She even hiked with them to help other dogs in remote regions while riding in a backpack! When she arrived in the United States, she was adopted by a friend of Dr. Dawkins who had told her before the trip to “bring me back a pitiful one if you need to!”
